Gynecological exams are valuable to adolescents in many ways. It is important for young women to be assessed early, especially if they are sexually active, and to begin a relationship with a doctor that may guide them through many important times in their life. Our doctors promise special care and confidentiality to their younger patients.
A typical adolescent exam includes a consultation, a full medical assessment and a minimally invasive exam depending on the specific patient. Annual pelvic exams and pap smears are recommended for all women over the age of 18, but younger patients may receive a modified exam. If the patient is not sexually active, a pelvic exam may not be required. Since a gynecological exam may be overwhelming for a teenager, our doctors make sure to carefully and thoroughly explain the exam process and answer any questions the patient may have. They also answer any concerns the patient may have about their bodies as they enter adulthood. Our doctors are extra sensitive with their younger patients and work hard to develop a trust and begin a hopefully long lasting relationship.

A prenatal consultation is recommended for expecting mothers as an opportunity to meet with Dr. Williams and discuss the details of your pregnancy. This allows doctor and patient to develop a trusting relationship and discuss any potential complications, existing health conditions or other circumstances that may affect you and your baby. During this consultation, Dr. Williams will obtain your complete medical history.

Prenatal care is vital in ensuring the healthy growth and development of your baby. Regular visits to your health care provider aim to monitor your baby's progress and identify any potential problems before they become serious. Women who receive prenatal care have healthier babies and are less likely to deliver prematurely or have pregnancy-related problems.
Prenatal care should begin as soon as possible and usually includes monthly doctor's visits. These visits should become more frequent as the pregnancy progresses, and include a complete physical exam, blood and urine samples and answers to your questions.
